Origen on Theosis

It leads us to the endless and perfect end, teaching us beforehand the future life that we shall lead, according to God, and with gods; after we are freed from all punishment and penalty which we undergo, in consequence of our sins, for salutary discipline.

A very real “pantheism” if you like (in the etymological meaning of the word) but an absolutely legitimate pantheism⁠—for if, in the last resort, the reflective centers of the world are effectively “one with God,” this state is obtained not by identification (God becoming all) but by the differentiating and communicating action of love (God all in everyone).

What man is, Christ was willing to be – so that man may also be what Christ is. Dwell in expectation of receiving what the Father has granted to the Son.

Thou shalt resemble Him . . . having made thee even God to his glory.

Men should escape from being men, and hasten to become gods.
